We dye Viva, Terra, Bella and Luna with acid dyes.

Once dyeing is complete, all of the water is filtered through our in-house effluent treatment plant and our reverse osmosis system. The clean water is re-used for dyeing and other maintenance processes.

Before working with a skein of yarn, it is important to wind the yarn into a ball. After removing the label, the yarn should separate fairly easily into a large loop with 1 self-tie and 3 additional small ties (see below if you are having difficulty locating the ties). Make sure the strands of yarn are all going in the same direction and that no strands cross over the ties.

If you have a yarn swift, put the loop of yarn on it, making sure the loop is secure and no loose strands of yarn are hanging down. Carefully cut the 3 smaller ties. If possible, untie the self-tie. Alternatively, cut the self-tie, being careful not to cut into any other strands. Grasp one end of the yarn and begin winding it into a ball.

If you do not have a yarn swift, place the yarn over the back of a chair or, sitting cross-legged, around your knees. Or ask a friend to hold up their forearms, place the loop of yarn around their hands, and wind from there.

Symfonie yarns come in skeins with 4 ties. There is 1 self-tie (meaning it connects the beginning and end of the skein) and 3 additional ties (made with separate short lengths of yarn). Once you unwind the skein to reveal all of the yarn in a loop shape, the 4 ties should be visible. If not, use your fingers to gently poke through the strands to find the ties.

Yes, you may hold together 2 (or more) strands of a finer weight yarn to achieve the gauge of a heavier yarn.

The gauge of your pattern determines which weight of yarn you should use. In general, you can substitute one yarn for another if they knit to the same gauge and are similar in construction and fiber content (thus produce comparable fabric).

Reducing our carbon footprint is a top priority, and we are constantly working to improve our processes. Our in-house water treatment plant and our reverse osmosis system are prime examples. We are avid conservers of clean water and are able to safely re-use this valuable resource in the maintenance of our factories and grounds.

All the acid dyes we use are REACH-compliant, which means that no harmful chemicals are used in the dyeing process.
